Horses still loose water and electrolytes throughout the winter even though you may not be visibly seeing as much sweat. The lost water and electrolytes need to be replaced to keep your horse healthy.
Horses may be more likely to drink warmer water in the winter than cold, between 15-20 degrees Celsius is ideal.
Some horses may benefit from a heated water trough if they are less likely to drink cold water or are prone to impaction colic.
Mash feeds are a great way of getting fluids into your horse as they can be soaked in warm or cold water and are very palatable for even the fussiest of eaters.
