That infamous saying “the best time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining” has never been so apt to when it comes to preparing your stables for the wet weather and the winter, it’s now August and it’s time to prepare.
So we have put together a 5 point plan which includes tips and product ideas to help you on your merry way…
Starting from a clean sterile stable is essential to keep your horse/s from picking up bugs and diseases. Shovel out all the muck and keep it for your rose beds or be a great neighbour and bag it up and put outside your drive to share.
Make sure all your rubber stable matting is hosed down, disinfected and put out to dry.
Rubber stable matting is kind to your horse because it provides a safer surface reducing the risk of injury. You can also fix rubber matting to the walls which will provide better insulation in cold weather giving your horse extra comfort and warmth. If your horse has a tendency to kick or bite, rubber matting on the walls will also provide your horse extra cushioning.
This is the best time to create an excellent barrier against bacteria, fungi and viruses, killing bad odours and giving your horse a freshly cleaned home, so go to town and get into those nooks and crannies.
We recommend two disinfectants for this job, both do an epic job so it’s down personal choice and are available for home delivery….
Now you’ve done all the hard work it’s time to leave it to Mother Nature to dry out your stables, if you do the job on a nice warm day you won’t have long to wait
It is essential to make sure the stables are dry before putting back the rubber stable matting and adding your bedding, otherwise standing water under your rubber matting will become stagnate and increase the risk of bacteria forming, unwanted flies and water will start to smell foul!
It’s time to make a nice soft and warm environment for your horse so get the dry rubber mattings down before getting to work on the shavings.
Once your rubber mattings down you’ll need 6 to 8 bales of horse bedding for an area of 12ft x 12ft.
Get good coverage using a Fynalite Shavings Fork, it’s no fun otherwise!
And ‘voila’ you have the most amazing home for your horse to feel clean, safe and comfortable in.
