How to measure for Wellington Boots

BLOG
Rockfish Walkabout Wellington Boots

Wellington Boots are a huge must have in Britain especially in the countryside community. Whether you’re working with horses, walking the dog or spend a lot of time in the garden, Wellies are great to just slip on and get on with it. They are also stylish and look great at most outdoor occasions.

True to size?

Wellingtons come in many different sizes and styles, however most manufacturers state that they are good to size. So if you’re a size 10 in shoes, then a size 10 in Wellies (even with thick socks) is the size you should go for.

Calf Muscle

If you have unusually large calf muscles then measure your calf muscles by sitting down with your feet flat on the floor and measure the largest circumference, making sure that the boot you choose will fit. Wellies with adjustable side straps are great and advisable or wellies with highly stretchable fabric such as the Rockfish Groundhog

Foot Width

If you have exceptionally wide feet then it’s also best to measure your feet at the widest part of the foot and then check with the Wellington Boot to make sure it fits comfortably. Most Wellies will fit even the widest of feet.

Why are Wellington Boots called Wellington Boots (or Wellies)?

Otherwise known as Wellington rain boots or Wellies, Wellingtons were an idea by Arthur Wellesley better known as the Duke of Wellington.

Back in the 1800s, The Duke of Wellington apparently approached his shoemaker and asked him to modify his riding boots. His instruction was to get rid of the tassels from the riding boot, make them more form-fitting, comfortable and stylish for social occasions.

After beating Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, The Duke of Wellington became extremely famous and amongst the aristocracy they wanted to replicate his look especially his newly designed boot, hence why this style of boot took became his namesake.
